The 2022 "Editor in Chief Face to Face" Conference on Economics and its Public Welfare Live Broadcast, hosted by the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University, was successfully held from June 20th to 29th, 2022. The conference was co-hosted by Elsevier and the Management Home Forum and was broadcasted through various platforms, including Zoom online conferences, Elsevier live streaming, the Management Home video account, and the Bilibili platform.

 

The event brought together chief editors of seven prominent journals in the field of economics, as well as domestic academic experts, for in-depth discussions on journal publications and the latest research across various fields. The conference was divided into two main modules. The first module, the Chief Editor's Plenary Meeting, featured seven chief editors who provided insights into the positioning and characteristics of their respective journals, as well as valuable advice on writing and submission. The second module consisted of seven thematic lectures by the chief editors, with each lecture featuring a chief editor sharing their latest research and receiving comments from renowned scholars in the field.

 

The conference garnered significant attention, with nearly 40,000 attendees from prestigious universities worldwide, including Harvard University, Cambridge University, Princeton University, Michigan University, National University of Singapore, Duke University, London School of Economics, Cornell University, Indiana State University, Royal Swedish Institute of Technology, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and many others. The conference received extensive coverage and follow-up from academic groups, media outlets, and institutions such as Elsevier Group, Management Home Forum, Econometrics Circle, Management Academy, and the China MBA Education Network.

 

The first module of the conference, the Chief Editor's Plenary Meeting, took place on the evening of June 20, 2022, with Professor Wang Yacan from the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University presiding over the meeting. Professor Shi Xianliang, the Dean of the School of Economics and Management, and Ms. Bethan Keall, the Director of Elsevier Economics Publishing, delivered opening speeches. The seven chief editors of the invited journals, including Professor Tilman Börgers from the University of Michigan, Professor Tony White from the University of Michigan, Professor Nathaniel Hendren from Harvard University, Professor Andreas Lange from the University of Hamburg, Professor Stuart S. Rosenthal from Syracuse University, Professor Giacomo Calzolari from European University College, and Professor Daniela Puzzello from Indiana University, provided comprehensive insights into their journals' focus areas, research trends, and considerations for submission. They also discussed Chinese economic issues submitted by Chinese scholars in recent years, offering valuable guidance to the audience.

 

The second module of the conference featured a series of thematic lectures by the chief editors, held from June 21 to 29, 2022. These lectures covered various topics in economics, including choice dominance relationships, public goods supply in markets, agglomeration economies in the built environment, the impact of recommendation algorithms on market competition, policy welfare effects, the importance of currency from a macro experimental perspective, and taxation's impact on corporate leverage. These lectures provided participants with fresh insights into different areas of economic research.

Each thematic lecture was hosted by faculty members from the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University, and renowned scholars in the respective fields were invited as guest reviewers to provide in-depth comments and engage in discussions.

The 2022 "Editor in Chief" Conference in Economics follows the success of the first conference held in June 2021 and is part of the ongoing "Editor in Chief" series initiated by the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University since 2018. This year's conference continued the theme of "online multi-dimensional communication" and successfully broke through the constraints of time and space in the post-pandemic era. It further emphasized the importance of academic communication and public welfare by providing an open, flexible, and effective platform to support high-level academic research, exchange, and publication. The conference served as an inclusive and open academic exchange platform for Chinese economics scholars and researchers, offering diverse channels for research localization, communication expansion, and international academic influence.
