Our university, Beijing Jiao Tong University, has recently entered into an official agreement with the Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands for a dual doctoral degree program in economics. This program is open to all interested students seeking dual doctoral degrees from both institutions, offering them the opportunity to obtain degrees from both Beijing Jiao Tong University and the Free University of Amsterdam.

Selected students in this program will benefit from a full tuition fee reduction provided by the Free University of Amsterdam. The Free University of Amsterdam, founded in 1880, is a member of the European Association of Universities (EUA) and holds impressive rankings, including 84th on the 2022 U.S. News World University Rankings and 115th on the 2022 THE World University Rankings. Economics is a prominent field at the Free University of Amsterdam, which collaborates with the Tinbergen Institute, an economics research center jointly established with the University of Amsterdam and Erasmus University in Rotterdam. This partnership serves as a platform for the joint development of research-oriented master's and doctoral programs. The Department of Space Economics at the School of Business and Economics at the Free University of Amsterdam plays a significant role in this dual doctoral program.

According to the June 2021 Global Economist Ranking by RePEc (Research Papers in Economics)/IDEAS, several professors from the department, including Erik Verhoef, Jos van Ommeren, Henri de Groot, Carolyn Fischer, and Cees Withagen Richard Tol, are ranked in the top 5% globally in various fields of economics, such as transportation economics, energy economics, and environmental economics.

Professor Erik Verhoef, Director of the Department of Space Economics at the Free University of Amsterdam, and Professor Wang Yacan from our research team, have established substantial collaboration in areas such as paper publications, book writing, project applications, and conference organizing. Their jointly authored textbook, "Market and Government: Theory and Application of Transportation Economy," has been integrated into our undergraduate and primary school courses, receiving positive feedback. In 2020, both institutions initiated a personal agreement model for jointly supervising dual doctoral students, and the first batch of students has already been successfully placed.

In addition to the dual doctoral program, the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiao Tong University has engaged in extensive communication and exchanges with the Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The two universities will continue to collaborate in areas such as joint student training, faculty visits, and international research projects. This collaboration aims to create an international platform for our faculty and students to advance their studies, enhance the internationalization of talent cultivation, foster interaction and exchange among researchers from both universities, and promote substantial international academic influence.
