Professor Wang Yacan from our university has been invited to join the United Nations Consultative Committee on Transportation and Sustainable Infrastructure, a part of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology.

On July 9, 2022, the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Transport & Sustainable Infrastructure was officially established, becoming one of the seven consultative committees of the United Nations, with its secretariat located at the China Highway Society. Yan Xinping, the chief professor of Wuhan University of Technology and an academician of the CAE Member, served as the first chairman of the United Nations Consultative Transportation Committee. There are 20 members in total, covering railway, highway, water transport, aviation, postal and other fields. All of them are experts and scholars with outstanding achievements in politics, industry, academia and research. Professor Wang Yacan from our university, as one of the twenty founding members of the United Nations Consultative Committee on Transportation, attended the establishment meeting of the committee.

 

In July 2004, the China Association for Science and Technology was granted special consultative status with the United Nations as a non-governmental organization (NGO), making it the largest NGO in China with consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. For a long time, the consultative status of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology with the United Nations has been an important way and direct channel for China to carry out private science and technology diplomacy under a multilateral framework. The newly established United Nations Advisory Committee on Transportation will carry out consultation work in the relevant transportation field, focusing on the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, domestic development strategic needs, and international development trends. This includes studying the dynamics and trends of technological innovation and governance in the transportation field, conducting relevant policy and technical consultations on major international issues, organizing project research, training, and related topic research, and actively participating in relevant United Nations activities, Speak out for China and promote global consensus. The establishment of the United Nations Consultation Committee on Transportation signifies that in future United Nations consultation activities, we can speak more of China's voice, expand China's influence in global scientific and technological governance, and enhance China's voice in major international scientific and technological issues.

 

The China Association for Science and Technology's United Nations Consultative Committee on Transportation will use its special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a working platform to deeply participate in global science and technology governance, contribute Chinese wisdom, and focus on promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. It will actively integrate into the global technology and innovation network with an open scientific perspective, organize major and comprehensive research on international transportation technology issues, and make a Chinese voice in areas related to global sustainable development, human health, climate change, internet governance and other common human challenges, enhance China's voice and influence in international transportation technology issues, and promote international scientific and technological cooperation in the transportation field, To achieve global sustainable development.
