From July 26 to July 30, 2019, more than 30 doctors and teachers from Spain, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and China gathered at the University of Maryland in the United States to officially launch and successfully implement the 5th S Sino-Eu Doctoral Summer School for Logistics, Information, Management and Service Science (LISSDS). This summer school is co-sponsored by Beijing Jiaotong University and Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Spain, held by International Center for Informatics Research Beijing Jiaotong University (ICIR) and Robert H. Smith Business School of University of Maryland, and received a fully support from Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base and Beijing key laboratories in logistics management and technology.

The opening ceremony of the summer school was held at 9 a.m. local time on July 26 at the University of Maryland Business School. Professor Huang Anqiang from the School of Economics and Management, Beijing Jiaotong University, introduced the background and development of the summer school and hosted the opening ceremony. Professor Hua Guowei, vice president of the School of Economics and Management, Professor Zhang Juliang form the department of logistics management, Professor Vicenc Fernandez from UPC Management School and Professor Eva Gallardo-Gallardo attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Professor Zhang Juliang introduced in detail the scientific research strength, cultivation concept, academic research and achievements of ICIR Center of Beijing Jiaotong University, and encouraged PhD students to pay attention to the development of ICIR Center and actively carry out cooperation. Professor Eva Gallardo-Gallardo encourages doctors to cherish opportunities, actively communicate and learn from each other, and wishes this summer school a success.

High-end academic exchanges and presentations on doctoral research programs are the important features and contents of LISSDS Summer School. From July 27 to 28, PhD students attended lectures by James M. Tien, academician of American Academy of Engineering, Michael C. Fu from University of Maryland, Gabor Bohac from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Kecheng Liu from Reading University, UK.

From July 29 to July 30, the communication about the studies of each PHD students was launched. Six doctoral students showed their latest research progress and aroused heated discussion. The doctoral students discussed the research issues from different cultural perspectives in different research scenarios. This summer school will last until August 3.

The Basic Introduction to the Summer School

The Sino-Eu Doctoral Summer School for Logistics, Information, Management and Service Science is the concrete construction work of the Sino-European Engineering Education Alliance " Sino-Eu Doctoral School for Logistics, Information, Management and Service Science" undertaken by our university and Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Spain. It is led by the Graduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University, the International Educational Exchange Center and hosted by the International Center for Informatics Research Beijing Jiaotong University (ICIR), Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base and Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The aim is to promote international cooperation and exchange on this platform, and promote joint doctoral training, academic exchange and cooperation among teachers.
