On January 25, 2019, Zhang Yi, a doctoral student of School of Economics and Management, Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), successfully passed the doctoral dissertation defence at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech (UPC) where she then received the doctoral degree with Excellent Cum Laude, the highest honor.
From October 2015 to April 2016, Dr. Zhang has studied at UPC, funded by the Sino-European “Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science” Sustainable Engineering Doctoral Program. Under the joint instruction of Professor Hua Guowei of BJTU and Professor Vincen Fernandez of UPC, she respectively completed the Chinese and English doctoral dissertations and passed the defences in June 2018 and January 2019. The English one is titled “Inventory and Pricing Management in Probabilistic Selling”. It mainly focuses on the probabilistic products, buyers and sellers in the process of probabilistic sales, considering the pricing and inventory management of probabilistic sales under different realistic characteristics and circumstances. Up till now, Dr. Zhang has accomplished eight English papers, including one in the A1 zone (a subzone of SCI, namely the top level), one in the A2, two in the A3, two in the A4, and other two being reviewed by A1 journals.
Approved by the Sino-Europe Engineering Education Platform (SEEEP) in 2014, the Sino-European “Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science” Sustainable Engineering Doctoral Program has been led by BJTU and UPC, designed to promote the academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and joint training of doctoral students between Chinese and European universities. The International Center for Informatics Research (ICIR) in our university undertakes the concrete task of building up this doctoral program. In recent years, with the help of the program we and UPC have established a close relationship of cooperation in terms of many respects. For instance, seven joint Ph.D. students have been already sent to UPC; cooperation in scientific researches is running smooth, including the successful joint application for the 830-thousand-euros international collaboration projects funded by Education and Culture of the European Commission, the co-hosting of international academic journals, co-holding of international academic conferences and summer schools, and so on. And this time Dr. Zhang Yi managed to obtain a Ph.D. from UPC, which could promote our cooperation further, and also profoundly deepen and accelerate the relevant internationalization process of Beijing Jiaotong University.
